Starwars

Star Wars is a film franchise, the story of which began with the 1977 film The Star Wars. Star Wars is created by screenwriter, producer and director George Lucas.

At its core, Star Wars consists of three film trilogies: the original trilogy which, in addition to Star Wars, includes the films The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and The Return of the Jedi (1983); the prequel trilogy, which takes place before the original trilogy, with the films The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005); and finally the sequel trilogy that follows the content of the original trilogy, which began in 2015 with the film The Force Awakens; continued in 2017 with The Last Jedi and finalized in 2019 by The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars is classified, among other things, in the genre of space opera and as heroic epic. The films are set in the fictional universe of a distant past and are about the ongoing struggle between good and evil - two sides represented by the light and the dark side of power.
The first two trilogies essentially tell of the fall of the Galactic Republic, the rise of the Galactic Empire and the successful revolution against the Empire by the former leaders of the Republic. Models and sources of inspiration for Star Wars were works from pop culture, including those by director Akira Kurosawa, and from the myth theory of Joseph Campbell.

Measured by their box office earnings, which together totaled over $ 9 billion, the Star Wars films are among the most successful works in film history. The most important awards for the films include ten Oscars. Star Wars also achieved notoriety through elaborate and innovative trick technology.

By 2015, Star Wars branded products generated approximately $ 30 billion in revenue.

In 2012 Lucas sold his company Lucasfilm, including the rights to Star Wars, to the Walt Disney Company
